Privacy notice

Written from what the software actually stores, not from a template.

What we store, and why

If you only read the site

No account, no tracking cookie and no analytics event unless you have agreed to measurement on the cookie banner. The current state is listed on the disclosures page. Your colour theme preference is kept in your own browser and never sent to us.

There are no reader accounts

You cannot register on this site, and there is nothing to sign in to. We previously offered accounts with collection tracking, follows and saved articles; those features have been withdrawn and the data they held has been removed. The only accounts that exist are for the people who edit the site.

This means we hold no profile of you: no email address unless you give us one for the newsletter or by writing to us, nothing about what you collect, and nothing that links one visit to another beyond what is described under measurement below.

If you subscribe to the newsletter

We store your email address, the time you gave consent, where you gave it, and a truncated network prefix rather than your full IP address. A subscription is not an account: it is an address on a list, it gives you nothing to log in to, and unsubscribing removes it.

If you contact us or submit an event

We store what you send and your email address so we can reply. Submissions are moderated before anything appears publicly.

Cookies and measurement

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It sets cookies in your browser and sends Google a record of the pages you looked at, your approximate location derived from a truncated IP address, and your browser and device type.

Nothing is measured until you say yes. The tag is loaded in a denied state and stays there unless you agree on the banner. If you refuse, or simply ignore the banner, no analytics cookie is set and no event is sent. Refusing changes nothing else about the site.

Your answer is kept in your own browser, not on our servers, and it is asked again after a year. You can change it at any time from Cookie settings in the footer of every page, and withdrawing takes the same single click as agreeing did.

We send Google the page you are on and the actions listed in our event taxonomy, which carries no email address, no account identifier and nothing from your collection. Google Analytics also records a standard set of interactions on its own: how far down a page you scrolled, clicks that take you to another site, file downloads, video engagement, and what you typed into our site search. We do not run advertising tags: the advertising consent signals are set to denied unconditionally, not offered as a choice, because there is nothing behind them to turn on.

The only other thing stored in your browser without asking is your colour theme preference and, if you track a checklist while signed out, your progress. Neither identifies you, neither leaves your device, and neither is used to measure anything.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell your data.
  • We do not send email addresses or collection details to analytics.
  • We do not put personal data in URLs or query strings.
  • We do not build advertising profiles from your collection.

Email

Transactional email (sign-in, password reset, subscription confirmation) is sent when you take an action that needs it. Marketing email is sent only after you confirm your subscription, and every message carries an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing is honoured before any queued message is sent.

Your data

There is no self-service export or deletion page, because with no account there is almost nothing to export: unless you have subscribed to the newsletter or written to us, we hold nothing that identifies you.

If you have subscribed, every message carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes your address. To ask what we hold about you, or to have it deleted, write to info@collectordispatch.com and we will answer.

Processors

The site runs on Supabase (database, authentication and file storage) and on a Next.js host. Email is sent through whichever provider the operator has configured; if none is configured, no email leaves the system and the interface says so rather than claiming a message was sent.
